“Recently, ISL’s Environmental Services Group has been working with the Platinum Stone Contracting (PSC) team on several resource road re-builds and stream crossing replacements for the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations in the Chilliwack and Merritt Forest Districts. These projects required instream works within sensitive fish habitat. Due-diligence Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) prepared by ISL along with recommendations of our Environmental Monitors were adopted into PCS’s work plan and schedule. From the corporate level, through project management, to construction labourers, PSC demonstrated an impressive commitment to getting the project done on-time and on-budget without sacrificing environmental requirements. PCS’s communication with our environmental team’s was first rate. The result has been high-quality stream crossing and road rebuilds, that have fully mitigated environmental impact during construction and have resulted in substantial improvements in fish access and fish habitat. In light of recent changes in the federal Fisheries Act; where risk is being transferred to project Owner’s and project Proponents, PCS commitment to addressing environmental issues concurrent with construction will be a critical factor in future project success.
